D'Sozo Camp

Community Service & Canvassing Youth Camp

About D'Sozo Camp

D'Sozo is a family-friendly youth camp with a unique focus:

  • Community service projects: Helping people with yard maintenance, gardening, mowing, etc. Just helping people, with no ulterior selfish motives.
  • Literature evangelism: Going door to door with books of truth. Satisfying spiritual needs.

A good portion of each day (~4-5 hrs) is spent out helping people in the community, whilst a couple of hours each morning is spent in evangelism and LE training. It is recommended (but not mandatory,) for participants to experience both Community Service Projects and LE.

What does D'Sozo mean?

Sozo is the root word used in the New Testament to describe both physical healing and spiritual salvation. Jesus used it when He said, “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.” (Luke 8:48) And when the angel told Joseph, “you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21), that was “Sozo,” too. The letter 'd' is added to the word just sort of as a window dressing, not from the original language. If you take 'd' in its Latin derivation, and make it 'of' or 'from', then d'Sozo would mean anything associated with Sozo, both physical healing and spiritual salvation.

Practically then, this means we ought to help people physically, not just spiritually. This is exactly what Jesus did. He ministered to the physical needs of people, and then the spiritual needs. In Acts 10:38 we read that Jesus "went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him".
